Pretty Good How-To (4) - I bought this book at Books a Million. While it is no manual by any means, it definitely is a good source if you are restoring an antique Super Beetle. My husband and I have found it most useful while working on my 72 Super Beetle, although we haven't gotten nearly far enough into the nitty gritty yet to determine if it is better than other books. I will say there were a few things in there so far about certain things that the Chilton's, Haynes, etc. did not go into. The pictures are especially helpful, which is absolutely essential when working on a car. The written instructions can only go so far. I would definitely recommend this book for your restoration! not helpful (2) - I found this book to be of little use in the restoration of my Super Beetle. It is by and large a picture book. There are no technical diagrams or descriptions, just pictures with brief descriptions. Pass on this and buy the Bentley manual. Very good Super Beetle Book (5) - This book is a very good reference and gives a good history of the Super Beetle. I would recommend it to any Bug or Super Beetle fan. The Volkswagen Super Beetle Handbook (5) - The Volkswagen Super Beetle Handbook HP1483: A Restoration Guide For 1971-1974 Models is really informative. Very good book!!! (5) - I bought the other VW Trends Beetle restoration book and returned it. Very disappointing. This one, on the other hand, is terrific! I have a '73 Super Beetle and plan to use this book to guide me through several projects I am planning. When I saw the first article used in the book in a VW Trends magazine on the news stand I tried to get a subscription beginning with that issue because, if I remember correctly, they wanted about $10 for a back issue!!! I called to see about getting a subscription starting with the news stand issue and got the runaround about not being able to choose the first issue of a subscription. So I emailed them. After more than six weeks I finally received a reply. By then I was so pi**ed off I blew them off. When I saw the book come out I looked it over and was very pleased because it would have cost a small fortune to get the back issues of the magazine with the same articles. Anyway, even though I haven't used the book for an actual restoration yet, from the reading I've done it appears that the author has done an excellent job of documenting the steps he went through while restoring his own VW Super Beetle. |
