Converting a 1967 or older type II to independent rear suspension with the removal of the reduction gear boxes. This can be accomplished stock height or lowered and with drum or disc brakes. This conversion requires the use of a 1600 dual port or stronger engine. Do it yourself basic kit available. Drive it in and drive it out with a rebuilt transmission with 12 months warranty and all new rear brakes.

Photo shows the welded in IRS pivot socket to accept rear suspension from a Beetle. Improved gearing enables cruising speeds of 70 mph. Allows you to determine the ride height unlike the swing axle conversion which requires lowering for the wheels to sit straight. Swing axle kits are available for those who want it on the ground and don't care to spend the extra for IRS. |
